THE MOORS: Crew & Creative Team

Saint Mary’s College Theatre Program is excited to share a little bit more about our wonderful production team for our Fall 2026 production, The Moors, written by Jen Silverman and directed by Dr. Javier Hurtado. The Moors is a dark, surreal comedy that brilliantly subverts classic 19th-century Gothic literature, drawing inspiration from the works of the Brontë sisters. It explores themes of loneliness, power, and visibility through a bizarre, sometimes violent, but darkly hilarious lens. Performances will take place October 28th to November 1st. 

Guiding this production as the Director is Theatre Program faculty member Dr. Javier Luis Hurtado (all/any). This is his second year at Saint Mary’s and second time directing on the LeFevre Theatre stage; they previously directed The Late Wedding in Fall 2025. Dr. Hurtado is a playwright, director, and performance historian, receiving an MFA in Writing for Performance from the University of California, Riverside and a Ph.D. in Theatre and Performance Studies from Tufts University. Their work has been produced by theaters across the country, and his scholarship has been published in numerous books, including the Routledge Companion to Latinx Theatre and Performance. 

Working alongside Dr. Hurtado are numerous Bay Area theatre professionals, including the highly respected Music Director Jon Gallo (he/him), who worked on Pippin in Spring 2026; the multi-talented Production Manager Patrick Burns (he/they), who last worked at Saint Mary’s in Spring 2023; and, new to the Saint Mary’s Theatre Program, we have experienced performer and Fight Director Brandon DiPaola (he/him) and extraordinary Costume Designer Olutola Afolayan (she/her). We are also lucky to have Saint Mary’s Alumni class of 2019 and accomplished Bay Area theatre professional, Alejandra Maria Rivas (they/elle), join us as our Intimacy Choreographer. 

Rounding out the artistic team for our Fall 2026 production are also numerous student leaders. Bianca Langlois (she/her), fourth-year Performance Theatre and Media Production double major, serves as the Assistant Director, bringing another perspective to this multifaceted production. We are also happy to have Bella Besag (she/her), fourth-year English major, as our incredible Stage Manager. Working with Bella are Assistant Stage Managers Liz Clyne (she/her), third-year Health Science major, and Jaden Kersten (she/her), second-year English and Creative Writing double major. Lastly, we have Nox Lassett-Egbert (they/them), fourth-year Technical Theatre major, working as our Lighting Designer, and Kate Barker (she/any), second-year Technical Theatre major, working as our Props/Puppet Designer. While all of these students are well-versed in the theatre arts, this is all of their first times in these roles, so please wish them extra luck as they take on these exciting new challenges. 

Of course, working tirelessly behind the scenes, we also have our wonderful Theatre Program Director,  Deanna Zibello (she/her), who is acting as the Scenic Designer and the professor for The Moors crew class; our hardworking Technical Director Ernie Ernstorm (he/him); and the  amazing Arts Division Events Coordinator and Box Office Manager, Tara Sundy (she/her)

As you can see, there are countless people working to make this show a reality, and the Saint Mary’s community will not want to miss it!

E-tickets: $10 SMC students; $15 SMC faculty and staff, non-SMC students; $20 general (plus ticketing fees at the door and online).
