6th Annual 44 Days | A Message from Associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Dear Saint Mary’s Community,
With distinguished honor and excitement, I am pleased to share the launch of the Sixth Annual 44 Days Honoring Black History at Saint Mary’s College. Deep gratitude goes to the students, staff, and faculty who serve on the Black Lives Matter Committee, a subcommittee of the College Committee on Inclusive Excellence (CCIE) who have made outstanding leadership efforts to convene dynamic speakers, programs, and events in celebration of African Americans contributions and roles in the shaping and reshaping of our nation’s history, including our own College’s history and narratives.
I have been an annual member of the planning of “44 Days” since its inception six years ago. Every year there is excitement, creativity, pride, and commitment to generating a theme that would transform experiences within and across our community. This year, we bring to you: "Making a Joyful Noise: Lifting Up Black Voices."
Let this be a time to reflect on how our Lasallian Core Principles provide guidance on how we see and treat one another. Join me in support of the 44 Days Celebration through our thoughtful participation. The impressive combination of faculty, staff, and student co-chairs of the Black Lives Matter committee - Robin Dunn, Laure Bowman, Courtney Gordon, and Collin Fisher - are an inspiration to us all. To the Saint Mary’s College community, I extend a heartfelt invitation to visit the 44 Days: Honoring Black History website for the calendar of events and opportunities to participate.
In community,
Dr. Evette Castillo Clark
Associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
