by SMC Campus Recreation | September 6, 2023

A busload of SMC students ranging from first years to seniors attended the white water rafting trip on Sunday, September 3rd. This trip was the first of various adventure explorations this year offered by Student Life and funded by the Enhancement Fee.

The early bus ride out to Lotus, California brought unexpected rain that drizzled on the participants throughout the arrival at the All Outdoor Rafting drop off location.  Participants were provided with wetsuits and/or rain shield coats to ensure their comfortability as well as helmets for safety.  Raft boats with 6 - 8 participants each had a professional guide to instruct them along the way as they took swift turns and twists down the South Fork American River.

“This was honestly such an amazing and fun experience and opportunity. At first I was a little scared but in all honesty I felt super safe and well guided by our instructors all were amazing people that clearly wanted to be there and engaged in their job with joy and compassion! Would do it again with the same people/group if the opportunity every arises."

Attendees ranged from all different class years and provided a unique connection. Participants expressed much appreciation for the trip and can’t wait to see what is in store for the next adventure.
