Bridging Classroom Learning and Career Success: SMC’s Industry Meet-Up Series

The Career Center’s Industry Meet-Up series is bridging the gap between classroom learning and professional development, providing students with an opportunity to connect with alumni and explore their future careers. This fall, more than 240 students have attended Industry Meet-Ups.

Industry Meet-Ups offer students a welcoming space to engage in open dialogue, ask questions, and gain real-world insights directly from professionals. Alumni and community members represent diverse industries, including marketing, finance, communications, clinical care, and the performing arts. These professionals share their experiences, helping students build meaningful connections and a clearer understanding of how to translate classroom knowledge into professional success.

In our more recent sessions, which focused on Health Science and Kinesiology, we featured alumni from Marin Health Medical Center, local business owners, and professionals in physical therapy, public health, and academia. Panelists shared their career journeys, offered insider advice for breaking into the industry, and emphasized the importance of networking in today’s competitive
job market.

This event was hosted in collaboration with the departments of of Health Science and Kinesiology and proved to be a strong success, drawing more than 75 students in attendance. Students actively engaged with alumni, participated in thoughtful discussions, and took full advantage of the opportunity to build meaningful professional connections within their field.

With the series resuming for the spring semester, the Career Center would like to invite both students and alumni to participate in this semester's Industry Meet-Ups. These events are a powerful way to learn, connect, and explore the many career paths available after graduation.
