Celebrate Eight at the Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center
This week, the Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center will be celebrating 8 years since it first opened its doors! Come out and join the fun activities throughout the week.
On March 8, 2015 at 10:00am, the Recreation Center opened to our campus and has quickly become a vital component of campus life for the entire community. The “new” feeling of the equipment and services still has its effect and on any given day an average of 800 members of our community walk through the front doors.
When Saint Mary’s announced the plans for an Athletic and Recreation corridor on the west side of campus, the Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center was the centerpiece of the project. Students have enjoyed countless opportunities to improve their physical and mental health. Managed by the department of Campus Recreation, student-focused access continues to be a priority for the professional staff and student employees.
Annually, the staff checks in over 48,000 entries and organizes an average of 50 weekly recurring student events and activities. The recreation center is the home base for the 12 Club Athletic teams, which include the participation of 15+% of the undergraduate student population. More recently, three Peloton stationary bikes were added to the cardio equipment which includes a free subscription membership.

Activities This Week
Celebrate our Golden Birthday! JARC turns 8 on March 8th.
Monday 3/6 - Rec Center Trivia
- Answer trivia questions correctly and be entered into our raffle.
Tuesday 3/7 - Selfie with Balloon Animals
- We will have balloon animals scattered around the Rec at various machines, come in, take a selfie, and tag us on your story to be entered into our raffle!
- Climb the rock wall to hit the golden buzzer that sings happy birthday at the top to enter the raffle!
Wednesday 3/8 - Happy Birthday JARC
- Today we turn 8! We will also be giving out treats (as supplies last) and have placed 8 hidden golden eggs around the Rec Center to win an instant prize.
- Sing Happy Birthday over the loudspeaker and be entered twice into the raffle.
- Don’t wanna sing? Give a shout-out over the loudspeaker and get one raffle entry.
Thursday 3/9 - Wear Gold
- For our golden birthday week, we want you to show your spirit! Wear any gold gym clothing and show the front desk staff to be entered into the raffle.
Friday 3/10 - Honorary Gold Members
- We will be honoring our Golden Members - the male and female from each grade and faculty with the most swipes from the beginning of this semester to now, so make sure you stop by the rec to get your swipes in. It’ll be a close race!
