The Gaels Conclude Saturday with a 71-13 Victory Over Chico State

SMC B vs. Santa Clara A
1/29/2011- This cool Saturday morning began with Saint Mary's B side taking on Santa Clara's A Side. Santa Clara put up the first try but Luke Napier retaliated by putting up the next try, followed very closely by Hector Chinchilla with another. Santa Clara provided great defense against the Gaels but Garrett Brewer broke through the line with a nice run and a precise offload to Bailey Hardwick for yet another try. Saint Mary's also put up some great defense lead by Jordan Bouey which provided Steve Taunk with the opportunity to socre and end the half at 33-5. The Gaels began the second half with Bubba Jones scoring but Santa Clara fought hard against the defense and put up another try of their own. Saint Mary's came out victorious over the Broncos with a final score of 52-19.

SMC A vs. Chico State
On a progressively cold and wet Satuday, the Gaels seemed to be equally contested by the Chico Wildcats. But Gaels' forward pack put up the first try with a push over scrum ultimately put down by captain Andrew Cook. The Wildcats were fierce and contested the Gaels both offensively and defensively. With some questionable calls on both sides, the Gaels came out to fight. Max Heath put up the second try for the gaels, but Chico answered with a conversion. With the Wildcats on the scoreboard, Saint Mary's began to breakthrough. With trys by Tim Maupin and Jake Holguin the Gaels took a bigger lead. The half ended with a tough defensive sequence by the Gaels on their goal line, but Chico came out victorious and scored to bring the half time score to 22-8. The second half, the Gaels came out in full force to conclude with a victory. The forwards again showcased some great plays with a try by eight-man Joe Brophy and a beautiful and talented run and offload by Matt Crawford to Nick Wallace for a try. The Gaels concluded with a 71-13 victory over Chico State.
