Saint Mary's Men's Basketball returned to the Footprint Center in Phoenix on December 22 for their second appearance in the Jerry Colangelo Classic this season. Taking on the Wyoming Cowboys, an NCAA Tournament team last year, the Gaels ebbed and flowed their way to a 66–54 victory over the Pokes. Saint Mary's heads into the holidays with a 10–4 record.

After trading buckets for the first few possessions of the game, the Gaels pulled ahead with a furious first half run that created a good bit of distance between them and the Pokes. Between them, Mitchell Saxen and Logan Johnson scored 47 of the team's 66 points. Johnson landed a three-pointer in the second half that sparked a 14–2 run in favor of SMC, with first-year player Aidan Mahaney scoring nine straight points.

Saint Mary's begins West Coast Conference play on Thursday, December 29, with a home contest against University of San Diego at 6 p.m. SMC will open with three of their first four conference games at home, with a non-conference Division II game against the Academy of Art sandwiched in between. The Gaels won both of their meetings against the Toreros last season, and have won 16-straight against USD dating back to 2014.
