Need a Fitness Checkup? Check Out Gael Fit "X"

by Linda Lenhoff | April 29, 2019

Now’s your chance to get your fitness on—for free, with GaelFit “X,” a comprehensive health fitness assessment program provided by SMC kinesiology students and the SMC Rec Center. To celebrate GaelFit’s 10th anniversary, all faculty and staff who participate will receive one FREE month of Rec Center membership. But hurry, this offer ends May 9.

“GaelFit ‘X’ provides wonderful opportunities for everyone,” said Associate Professor of Kinesiology Derek Marks. “The participants learn about their current health and fitness status, which can be used as a benchmark for developing training programs and other lifestyle habits to work toward or maintain optimal health. The free month of Rec Center membership gives them access to a facility where healthy habits can be started and/or continued.

“Finally, for the participants, the program is free, fast, and conveniently located. The student technicians are provided an opportunity to serve their community by providing a professional-level assessment that utilizes many of the skills and theories they learned in their classes. They also develop assessment, technical, and communication skills through their work, which are essential in the postgraduate environment (grad school and/or careers in kinesiology),” Marks added.

GaelFit “X” offers three testing options:

1. GaelFit - our traditional assessment program - appropriate for everyone!

2. GoldFit - a testing program designed specifically for our mature clients.
