New to Crew
THE MOORS opens Wednesday, October 28!
The people on stage may get the spotlight, but the true stars of the theatre department are the crew! We are lucky for The Moors, written by Jen Silverman and directed by Dr. Javier Luis Hurtado, to have an incredible student crew, many of whom are new to the Saint Mary’s Theatre Program. This is partially due to the fact that anyone can sign up to be a part of the production crew class; no experience necessary! We constantly have new people signing up to be a part of the crew for our productions, and we wanted to highlight the work of a couple of our new students this semester.
First, we have to highlight the amazing work of our stage manager, Bella Besag (she/her). Bella is a fourth-year English major, graduating this spring. Now, she did take the production class once before, helping with ushering, but this is Bella’s first time taking on a lead role on a production at Saint Mary’s. It is a big responsibility, but everyone knew she would be able to step up and take on this important role. Bella is kind and reliable, and exactly the kind of person you want to be a Stage Manager. She brings years of experience in theatre to this production, but this has also been an opportunity for Bella to grow and learn new things. We are truly grateful to have Bella involved with the Theatre Program at Saint Mary’s for almost the first time. She has taken on so much this semester, and she is handling it wonderfully. We can not believe Bella is already graduating this year, and we cannot wait to see what she does next.
Next, we want to highlight someone on the crew who is both new to the theatre program and new to Saint Mary’s. Collin Shatara (he/him), is a first-year Engineering major but is also interested in the Technical Theatre Major. We are excited to have Collin join us as a Sound Board Operator and Assistant Electrician for The Moors, especially because he already has experience with sound. Having been very involved with his high school theatre program, Collin comes to us with a wealth of existing knowledge. He is passionate about working with technology and using technology to shape others’ experiences, which is why technical theatre is so perfect for him. We are excited for Collin to be able to continue the work he did in high school and develop the strong foundation of skills he already has.
These are just a few of the new students we have in the production class this semester. If any of this sounds interesting to you, we highly encourage you to come see The Moors October 28th through November 1st and even maybe sign up for THTR 280 next semester!
