“Soaring" Dance concert opens on May 8 for one-weekend of performances (Th-Sat.). The concert showcases a variety of works choreographed by our esteemed Dance faculty and performed by our students of the Saint Mary’s College Dance Company and Baile Folklorico Guadalupano. The title reflects how we might move through a range of ideas and emotions from love and relationships to empowerment and self-discovery.
As I complete my 28th year as a faculty member of Dance and the founding director and creator of the program, I am struck by how much this program is soaring. Each year our dance program has been in existence, we have grown and become stronger. This year our program received an invitation to the National College Dance Festival in Washington, DC, hosted by the American College Dance Association. We also were presented at the Danzantes Unidos Festival in Fresno with our Baile Folklorico performance group. And our newest genre, Belly Dance, made a debut at the Sahara festival in Berkeley.
All of this recognition is well-deserved and a testament to the dedication of our students and faculty. “Soaring” is our gift to you, our family and friends who continue to support us. The faculty and I also want to honor our graduating seniors as they complete their journey with us. Let’s send them soaring into the world!
