Prayers for Kenneth Hofmann '45, R.I.P.

April 24, 2018

Dear Saint Mary’s Community Members,

It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of Kenneth H. Hofmann '45. A successful businessman and former owner of the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Seahawks, Hofmann was a generous friend and an ardent supporter of Saint Mary’s, SMC Athletics, and the life changing impact of a Christian Brothers education. Among his many philanthropic efforts, he was among a group of alumni who supported the opening of De La Salle Academy in Concord, CA in 2014. The middle school for low-income students is sponsored by the Christian Brothers, and is a division of De La Salle High School, where Hofmann also served as a benefactor.

Mr. Hofmann attended Saint Mary’s for his freshman and sophomore years. He served as a Regent from 1973 until 1993 and as a Trustee from 1979 until 1989. In 1978, Mr. Hofmann was inducted into the SMC Athletic Hall of Fame. In 1983, he was named SMC's Alumnus of the Year. He has multiple family members who are Saint Mary's graduates, including his daughters Lisa '81 and Lori '85.

Mr. Hofmann, who was 95 years old, passed away peacefully at his home on Sundaysurrounded by his family. We join the Lasallian community, and many others in the Bay Area who were touched by his presence and generosity, in offering our prayers and condolences to his family during this time. May he rest in peace with the Lord.

Sincerely,

James A. Donahue
