With Marjane Satrapi & Anahita Ghazi Bayat

Marjane Satrapi is the celebrated author of the critically acclaimed and bestselling graphic memoir, Persepolis, a New York Times Notable Book that chronicles Satrapi’s young life in Iran where she witnessed the Islamic Revolution and the devastating effects of war. Satrapi is the author of many other graphic novels and has directed several films, including the animated adaptation of Persepolis, which was nominated for an Academy Award in 2008. In moving talks, Satrapi offers a look into her upbringing, the process of writing about a beloved yet broken homeland, and the power of both literature and film to tell complex human stories.

Ana Bayat is a multilingual storyteller and theatre, film, and voice-over professional fluent in Spanish, French, English, and Persian. Born in Iran, Ana grew up in Barcelona in the 1970s before returning to Tehran as the Iranian Revolution prompted mass migrations to Europe and the U.S. in the 1980s. Following in her father's footsteps, she trained in the Stanislavski system before embarking for England and conservatory training and education in language, linguistics, theatre, and film. Ana teaches in the World Languages and Cultures Department at SMC and continues to perform her award-winning show Mimi’s Suitcase worldwide.
