WIth Jazz Band Director Malachi Whitson, a renowned musician who just got back from performing with Herbie Hancock in Abu Dhabi, and Jazz Combo Director Sam Reider, who is a Latin GRAMMY-nominated pianist, accordionist, composer, and educator, you are in for a real treat on Friday, May 16 in LeFevre Theatre. The concert begins at 7:30pm and will conclude with light refreshments in LeFevre Theatre lobby to celebrate a year of hard work by our wonderful instrumental students.

Sam Reider has been teaching composing to some of the instrumental students. Talented student Jackson Thornborrow wrote a song, "Notre Dame," which will be performed at the concert. In addition, the Jazz Combo portion of the concert will include "Dolphin Dance" by Herbie Hancock and "I Don’t Need No Doctor" by Nick AshfordValerie Simpson, and Jo Armstead. The Jazz Band will delight us with "Free for All" by Wayne Shorter, "Sister Cheryl" by Tony Williams, "Serpentine Fire" by Earth, Wind & Fire, "Tell Me a Bedtime Story" by Herbie Hancock, and "What is Hip" by Tower of Power.

On the last day of classes this semester, come join us for an exciting performance of contemporary jazz! For students going to the CAB carnival first, we have a limited number of complimentary tickets if you show up by 7:20pm and show your school ID.
