SEBA Spearheads Another Successful Technology Conference for the Executive MBA Industry

SEBA Professor Barry Eckhouse, the School’s Director of Technology and Online Programs, organized and chaired the much-anticipated EMBA Tech conference – a forum originated by Barry in 2010 to provide an opportunity for leaders in the Executive MBA industry to discuss the rapid changes in technology and their effect on EMBA education. This is the second EMBA-Tech conference organized by Barry, and due to the buzz after the first one held in 2010, the number of participants from top hybrid MBA programs in the nation increased this year. The invitation-only conference was held on April 9 and 10 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco, and was attended by CTOs, CIOs, CEOs, and Deans or Directors of EMBA programs from such schools as:

The 2012 conference focused on open exchange of program offerings; digital literacy and proficiency for the working professional; electronic distribution, e-readers and mobile computing; and social networking, virtual meeting spaces, and online conferencing. The featured speaker was Matt MacInnis, CEO of Inkling, a company that is attempting to redefine the future of textbooks. The two-day packed agenda included dynamic discussions led by leaders in both academic and business communities, and from CEOs, CTOs, deans, directors, publishers, and instructional technologists.

Eckhouse exclaims, “This year’s conference was spectacular, both in terms of the quality of participating organizations and in the richness of the conference content and discussion. The nation’s top ten EMBA programs were well represented, including first-ranked Chicago (Booth), and topics ranged from electronic distribution, to game prototypes, to roll-outs of tablet based computing.”
