Set for Success: Students Network the Day Away at Twitter

In its efforts to provide students experiential learning both within and beyond the classroom, Saint Mary’s College arranged a trip for SEBA students to visit Twitter on October 24. Eighteen students visited Twitter's campus in San Francisco, spending the day learning about career development in various roles at Twitter, speaking with different marketing executives, and learning about Twitter’s collaborative and dynamic culture.

Company events like these do a good job of setting students on a path to succeed, both before and after graduation. “Students come away with an awareness of possible internships or part-time/full-time job opportunities, and what the application process is like,” said Director of Career and Professional Development Services Beverly McLean of an earlier event. “They also learn about what skills the company is seeking, who is successful, and most importantly, what the culture is like at the company.”

Arranged by Mary Beth Stadt, SEBA’s Undergraduate Career Services manager, this event was an inside look at an influential company and prepared students for success after graduation. According to Kelly Wiedner, PhD, assistant professor of Marketing, our students “had the opportunity to learn from three marketing executives at one of the world's most successful tech companies about topics such as career development, networking and professional growth. Most importantly, our students saw how marketing is a critical component of a successful business.”
