SMC Jazz Singers Win California Jazz Competition!
Catch them performing in the Chapel on May 16 and 18. The concert, “United in Purpose,” also features the Glee and Chamber Singers.
Last weekend, Saint Mary's College Jazz Singers, directed by Dr. Julie Ford, competed in the annual California Jazz Championships held in Folsom, California. The competition featured instrumental and vocal jazz musicians from high schools and colleges across the West Coast. Among the four collegiate choirs participating in the competition, including Las Positas College from Livermore and Sacramento State, SMC Jazz Singers showcased their talent in a three-part competition spanning April 26 to 27.
Throughout the event, SMC Jazz Singers immersed themselves in the vibrant jazz scene, attending performances by other participating schools and engaging in various bonding experiences. From shared dinners to late-night jam sessions at the hotel, the trip fostered camaraderie and musical inspiration among the singers.
In an exciting culmination, the judges announced Saint Mary's College Jazz Singers as the winner of the "College Jazz Choir" division, affirming their exceptional musical talent and dedication.
As a testament to their artistry, SMC Jazz Singers invite you to experience their captivating performances, along with Glee and Chamber Singers, at the upcoming Choir Concerts "United in Purpose" on May 16 and 18 in the Chapel at 8 p.m. The May 18th concert will also be livestreamed here: Admission is free, with contributions welcome to support the choir's upcoming journey to the World Choir Games in New Zealand this July. Join us for an unforgettable musical journey!
