WATCH: For Isaac Serrano Torres '25, Graduation Was Groundbreaking
In May, Torres joined dozens of other Gaels as the first in their families to earn a college degree. His Saint Mary's experience was made possible, in large part, by generous donor-funded scholarships.
While graduating from college is a proud milestone for anyone, it takes on even more meaning for those who are the first in their family to earn a degree.
That was certainly the case for Isaac Serrano Torres '25. On May 23, Torres officially became a first-generation college graduate, joining dozens of other Gaels in that accomplishment. For him, the achievement allowed him to honor those who came before.
I know my parents came here for a better life," he told us. "Now this is one of the many ways I can pay them back for everything they sacrificed for me."
Torres definitely made the most of his time at Saint Mary's. A Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing, his' many leadership roles earned him the Brother Mel Anderson Award for Lasallian Leadership.
Ultimately, his experience was made possible, in large part, by generous merit- and need-based scholarships, funded by generous donors. "Getting all those scholarships shows that Saint Mary's cares about you," Torres said. "There are donors that care about us, even if they don't know us. "
Thank you to the many alumni, family members, and friends who make generational accomplishments like this possible through gifts to Saint Mary's.
