Where are the computers? or what the Library did during summer vacation
Big changes came to the Library over the summer! Responding to the need for more study space in the building as well as the continued need for desktop computers, the Library cleared the Silent Study room on the first floor to hold more tables and more computers. The Reference collection has been moved to shelves located right behind the reference desk. When completed, 20computers will be in the Silent Study room plus two ADA stations, and 14 computers along the walls in the main lobby area plus two ADA stations. This location contains the largest number of computers in the Library.
The second floor will have four computers located around the Atrium and one ADA station located below a stair. Two of the printers are also located on this floor.
The third floor will have 12 desktop computers located near the Archives and two of the group study rooms and one ADA station located near the Oversize books. Printing will default to the two stations on the second floor.
There number of computers available for students in the Library has not changed. They have been moved to provide a way to address the different ways students prefer to study.
Cloud Printing
Cloud Printing was introduced in the Spring of 2015. The SMC Cloud Print service provides users with the ability to print documents from their personal print queue from any device to library printers. This printing service is connected to GaelPrint. The cost of prints are deducted from a student's print balance account.
How do I use SMC Cloud Print?
- Log into www.stmarys-ca.edu/smccloudprint from a computer web browser to upload the desired print job(s).
- Walk to the library.
- Log into www.stmarys-ca.edu/smccloudprint from a computer or mobile device to release (print) the job. To learn more about how to use this service see the detailed user guides.
The Library now has five printers: four are black and white printers, two on the first floor (A and B), and two on the 2nd floor (D and E). One color printer (C) is located on the first floor near the Reference Desk.
More Study Space
The Silent Study room on the 1st floor now has additional space since the reference shelves have been moved. The long tables encourage you to use your laptop. One of the corners of the library on the third floor has had more tables and chairs moved in for individual study. Quiet is encouraged in this space. Overall an additional 80 seats/tables have been added to the library as we respond to the needs of students who need more room to study. And many of the chairs are now a more comfortable rolling chair.
Six group study rooms are available: one on the first floor, two on the second floor, and three on the third floor. Please visit the Circulation Desk to make reservations for these rooms or call 631-4229.
The Tech Bar is available for questions about locations of computers, computer issues, and Cloud Print.
