Professional Writing, Undergraduate Certificate

The Professional Writing Certificate prepares students for nearly every sector of industry today, including non-profit, business, government, legal, arts, education, and technology. It will also equip students with hands-on experience through engaged learning courses and internships. The Certificate is designed for interdisciplinary to provide you with opportunities to supplement your academic major and minor.

Learning Outcomes

  • 1: Write effectively across multiple genres and media, using a variety of modalities
  • 2: Communicate across diverse audiences, contexts, and cultures, enabling you to compose effectively on behalf of an organization or cause
  • 3: Understand concepts central to professional writing such as, but not limited to, rhetoric, genre, ethics, and user-centered design
  • 4: Recognize the different conventions, forms, and genres of writing that are appropriate for different professional settings
  • 5: Understand writing as a form of creative and critical inquiry central to a variety of professions, industries, and vocations, including professional and technical writing, editing and publishing, mass media, journalism, social work, and nonprofit/advocacy work
  • 6: Exhibit your professional ethos through a digital portfolio of professional writing
