At Saint Mary’s College, the arts and sciences come together to form a powerful foundation for discovery, creativity, and service.

The School of Arts & Sciences will officially launch in July 2026, uniting the strengths of the School of Liberal Arts and the School of Science into a single, mission-driven academic home.

We believe that both the liberal arts and the sciences are human practices—shaped by values, enriched by history, and conducted in service to the common good.

In the School of Arts & Sciences, you will encounter great thinkers, explore the natural world, and ask big questions about what it means to live, lead, and contribute in a changing world. Our students graduate as curious, capable, and compassionate leaders—ready to think critically, communicate clearly, and solve complex problems with creativity and integrity.

With more than 30 undergraduate majors, pre-professional pathways, and a range of graduate and certificate programs, the School of Arts & Sciences offers an education that is both broad and deep. Whether you’re studying biology or communication, psychology or performing arts, chemistry or English, you’ll gain the intellectual agility and practical experience that prepare you for a meaningful career—and a life of purpose.

Learning by Doing

Your education extends beyond the classroom. You’ll work side-by-side with faculty mentors on original research, creative projects, and community-engaged learning. From summer research in state-of-the-art labs to internships in Bay Area organizations, you’ll develop the skills and confidence to turn ideas into impact.

Inclusive and Connected

Saint Mary’s College is proudly designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), and the School of Arts & Sciences is a committed supporter of our diverse community of learners. Through initiatives such as the Institute for Latino and Latin American Studies (ILaLS), we promote awareness, dialogue, and scholarship around issues that matter to our students and communities.

A Community that Lasts

With small classes and an average student-to-faculty ratio of 10:1, you’ll join a close-knit community where professors know your name and champion your success. The connections you form here—intellectual, professional, and personal—will continue to inspire and sustain you long after graduation.
