Arts & Sciences Dean’s Team

The School of Arts & Sciences is comprised of 29 academic departments and undergraduate programs, and 8 graduate and professional programs. The Dean's Office provides support and oversight to approximately 150 faculty and staff members. Each member of the Dean’s Office has a particular portfolio of responsibilities, outlined briefly below. Together, we function as a tight-knit team: our areas of responsibility and expertise sometimes overlap, and we take a highly collaborative approach to much of what we do. Ask any of us for guidance or help and we’ll be sure to assist and connect you appropriately!

Gesine Gerhard, PhD, Dean

A scholar of modern European and German history, Dr. Gerhard’s research has focused on World War II, the Holocaust, food politics, and social history. She has published extensively, presented internationally, and remained actively engaged in teaching throughout her administrative career. She previously held leadership roles at Drake University and the University of the Pacific. In May 2026 She was selected as the inaugural Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences beginning July 1, 2026.
