About
Alhazen (as he was known in the West) reconciled various theories of optics from antiquity, and postulated that light is emitted or reflected from objects and travels in straight lines. Our perception of an object occurs when this light reaches our eyes. This simple model of light motivated Kepler, Newton, and others in the development of modern optics. To fully appreciate this achievement, we will create our own pinhole cameras and study the ray-like nature of light, using common household materials.
