COVID-19 Update:

The Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center allows on-campus resident students to use the facility indoors while maintaining the 10% capacity limit.  The following is available for on-campus resident students with proper registration and check-in. See our COVID-19 Related protocol here.

Recreation Services

  • 60,000-square-foot recreation facility
  • 13,800-square-foot fitness area with state-of-the-art equipment
  • Double gymnasium and single gymnasium (basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer and badminton)
  • Functional Training room
  • Group exercise room
  • Spin room
  • Swimming pool
  • Hydrotherapy spa
  • Day-use locker room (designated locker rooms for staff and faculty)
  • Climbing wall
  • Central location of club sports and intramural sports

Membership Options


All currently enrolled Saint Mary’s College students with an SMC student identification card have access to the facility.  Follow the registration instuctions here.

Staff and Faculty

Access will be given to all (full-time, part-time and adjunct) staff and faculty when enrolled for a staff and faculty membership. The membership will cost $240 annually; $10 per paycheck will be collected through payroll deduction. You can register online for the waiver here or learn how to register here.

Notice: Membership opportunities are currently not available due to the county health regulations.

  1. Payroll Deduction Form needs to be turned into Human Resources.

Affiliates include SMC Alumni, Spouse/Dependent of SMC Faculty & Staff, Contracted Workers and Faculty Emeritus.

Community Members

Community members include local residents and nonaffiliate guests of students, staff and faculty. Memberships for community members are currently unavailable.
