Annual Asbestos Disclosure

February 23, 2023

In accordance with California requirements, Saint Mary’s College is providing this notice to all occupants of buildings where known or presumed asbestos-containing materials are present.

Saint Mary’s College has established an Asbestos Management Plan (AMP) to maintain all known asbestos in good condition and prevent uncontrolled disturbance of these materials. By taking these precautions, it is unlikely that asbestos will become airborne, thus potential exposure to airborne asbestos is greatly reduced. The AMP is available for review by contacting the Facilities Services office, and is comprised of the following components:

  1. General information on asbestos
  2. Health effects of asbestos
  3. Available asbestos survey information for each building (i.e. material description, material location, quantity of materials and type & content of asbestos).
  4. Training, medical surveillance and protective equipment requirements for maintenance or construction personnel that will disturb asbestos-containing materials.
  5. Management practices that maintain known asbestos-containing materials in safe condition.
  6. Procedures used to safely work with asbestos-containing materials when disturbance is unavoidable.
  7. Documentation of past asbestos abatement projects, including air sampling conducted before, during and after abatement activities when available.

Please remember that any known or presumed asbestos-containing materials shall not be repaired, moved, drilled, sanded, hammered or otherwise disturbed unless the activity is 1) approved by Saint Mary’s College and 2) performed by individuals properly trained, equipped with appropriate tools, and using approved work practices. Uncontrolled/unauthorized disturbances of asbestos-containing materials or any materials presumed to contain asbestos may cause the release of asbestos fibers, resulting in exposure to you and your coworkers.
