Building Community Through Weekend Programming

Working with the Gael Sisterhood Executive Team and the Residence Hall Association (RHA) to plan the Y2K Dance on Saturday, April 18, was one of my favorite experiences as President of Gael Sisterhood. Inspired by early 2000s culture, the event created a fun and welcoming space for students to dance, relax, craft, and connect with one another.

The event reflected Gael Sisterhood’s mission of fostering belonging, connection, and empowerment by creating spaces where all students feel welcomed and supported. We welcomed around 75 attendees and saw many new faces join the event, which made the night especially meaningful for our organization.

A Positive and Engaging Student Experience

Student feedback showed strong satisfaction with the event experience, particularly the welcoming atmosphere, sense of community, and opportunities to connect with others. Popular food options like Chick-fil-A and Chip Cookies also contributed to the energy of the night. One student shared, “I loved it so much, especially the Chick-fil-A!”

Supporting Student Life Beyond the Classroom

The Y2K Dance was supported through the Associated Students Weekend Program Fund within the Student Activities and Engagement Office. As part of this initiative, the event helped create engaging weekend opportunities that make campus life feel active, inclusive, and community-centered for SMC students.
