Lia Castro: Fellow of the Kearny Street Workshop

“As a Kearny Street Workshop (KSW) fellow in the MFA in Creative Writing program, I was able to promote and be part of the present Asian Pacific American world of art. This includes helping prepare for events such as KSW Presents and APAture 2019. Moreover, working with the best team at KSW, Jason, Mihee and Diana, opened doors and opportunities for me to meet people in the same field and from different backgrounds. The community we have at KSW made me feel at home, despite being thousands of miles away from the Philippines. This fellowship also influenced the novel I'm currently working on (a modern-day story about two Filipina sisters) as the organization helps promote historical roots, contemporary issues and cultural values." -Lia Castro
