Professor John C. Dwyer (1930-2016)
Professor John C. Dwyer passed away Jan. 2, 2016 in Elka Park, N.Y.
John was born to the late Charles and Marion Young Dwyer in New York City. John was a beloved professor of Theology and Religious Studies at Saint Mary’s College from 1971–1993. Upon his retirement from Saint Mary’s, John taught in the Diocese of Albany, New York and retired in 2007.
John was known for his timeliness, humor, and the ability to bring out the best in his students. He wrote books on Church History and The Foundations of Christian Ethics to name a few of his many writings. His books are still used in university classrooms throughout the world.
John is survived by his loving wife Odile (Kencker) Dwyer, many cousins, loving friends, colleagues and students.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, CA on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 2 p.m., with a reception to follow.
