Vandalism On Campus

by Richard Plumb, PhD, President | December 20, 2022

In the overnight hours, Campus Safety worked with Moraga Police Department to respond to reports of vandalism on campus. Moraga Police Department apprehended a juvenile, male non-student for vandalism and destruction of property to several buildings on campus including the Library, Brother Jerome West, and the Chapel.

While there is no safety risk at this time, Campus Safety and Facilities Services are working this morning to identify any additional areas impacted. As you come onto campus today, please be aware that the Library and certain areas of Chapel and Brother Jerome West will be closed for clean up.

If you find additional areas that have been vandalized, please report them immediately to Campus Safety by calling (925) 631-4282.

I realize this incident can cause mixed reactions and emotions of sadness, disbelief, and even anxiety during this holiday season. Saint Mary's offers a range of services to employees and staff who need support, including  our Employee Assistance Program. Additionally, the Peer-Run Warm Line (855-845-7415) is a non-emergency resource for anyone in California seeking mental and emotional support.

It is important to reiterate that there is no safety risk at this time, and I want to thank Campus Safety and its partners in the law enforcement community for being vigilant in addressing the situation promptly and effectively. I also want to thank our Facilities Services team for their prompt assessment and work to repair the damage to our beautiful campus.

Sincerely,

Richard Plumb, PhD
