Internships
Body
If you are a Communication major, you are required to complete our Internship course (COMM  495). You'll need to set up your own internship, to be approved by Internship Coordinator Ginny Prior (vcp1@stmarys-ca). Ginny is happy to talk with you to discuss your ideas, and she might even have some internship leads for you.

From Ginny:

The course work involves creating a blog (Google sites is easiest) and journaling about your internship in detailed, multimedia posts. We meet only twice during the semester, once as a group for midterms and then individually at the end of the semester.

Below are the requirements for one-, two-, and three-unit internships. Your supervisor must verify your hours and evaluate your performance at the end of the semester. (If you're completing an internship this summer, or have already completed an internship, your supervisor can combine the intro letter with the sign-off letter).

For 3-unit internships: You must work 120 hours at your internship

Your blog will include a page entitled JOURNAL, where you will write a least 20 posts highlighting what you did/learned over the course of your internship. Each post should include a photo, audio or video, or screenshot to help tell the story of your internship.

Also set up a page for READING where you'll write a three 600 word reflections (one for each of the three books you read, outlining internship challenges and corresponding book solutions); a 300 word FINAL ANALYSIS where you reflect on your internship and your career goals; and a page that says ABOUT (with your photo headshot and a paragraph about your goals and aspirations).

For 2-unit internships: You must work 60 hours at your internship

Your blog will include a page entitled JOURNAL, where you will detail at least 15 workdays of your internship. Each post should include a photo, audio or video, or screenshot to help tell the story of your internship. Also set up a page for READING where you'll write two 600 word reflections – (one for each of the two books you read, outlining internship challenges and corresponding book solutions); and a page that says ABOUT (with your photo headshot and a paragraph about your goals and aspirations.)

For 1-unit internships: You must work 30 hours at your internship

Your blog will include a page entitled JOURNAL, where you will detail at least 10 workdays of your internship. Each post should include a photo, audio or video, or screenshot to help tell the story of your internship. Also set up a page for READING where you'll write one 600-word reflection on a book you read outlining internship challenges and corresponding book solutions; and a page that says ABOUT (with your photo headshot and a paragraph about your goals and aspirations).
