Liberal Arts Bridge

Internships are an important way for Liberal Arts majors to explore their interests in potential career pathways, develop professional skills, networks, and self-confidence, prepare themselves for future employment opportunities, and gain experience in relevant workplace environments. These are the goals of the Liberal Arts Bridge (LAB) Program.

Internships are a crucial part of the LAB program, and we aim to double the number of Liberal Arts graduates who complete at least one internship, starting with the class of 2023. Given their commitments to service, community, social justice, and the common good, many of our Liberal Arts majors aspire to intern with nonprofit and public-sector organizations. Because such internships are typically unpaid, we’ve launched a LAB Internship Scholarship to support students whose financial circumstances would otherwise make such an opportunity impossible. Thanks to the generosity of donors, we were able to award several scholarships from 2019 until now. With the increasing base of LAB partners, we aim to keep growing the program substantially.

Scholarship applications for summer internships are normally due annually on April 1.  Applications may be considered after that date, if sufficient funds are available.

Under COVID-19 conditions, applications for scholarships to support part-time, remote internships during the regular academic year will also be considered.  These should be submitted as early as possible before the internship commences.

LAB Internship Scholarships 

The LAB Internship Scholarship program provides scholarships of up to $5,000 to support participation in an unpaid or underpaid summer internships with non-profit or public sector employers.
