Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

The IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) oversees the use of vertebrate animals for teaching and research at Saint Mary’s College of California. The IACUC is responsible for ensuring the humane care and use of animals, for ensuring that the animal care guidelines issued by Office of Animal Welfare (OLAW) and other federal agencies are followed and for the inspection of on-campus animal housing facilities. The Dean of the School of Science is the Institutional Official for the Animal Care program.

The IACUC consists of two Biology faculty members, a faculty member outside School of Science, a community member and a veterinarian. The Committee reviews the applications for animal use, requires modification to protocols and can either approve or withhold approval for the Animal Care and Use protocols.
