2022 River of Words Celebration

River of Words at Community Day 2022

On April 23, 2022, River of Words joined the Saint Mary’s Community Day event to highlight the winners and finalists of the 2022 contest. The day was warm and bright as we lined the sidewalks of the campus with easels of artwork and poetry from all over the world. We were joined by the Green Gaels, a campus sustainability organization led by Anne Drevno, who set up activities that included educational lessons on indigenous plants, face-painting, and an interactive written word poster. Recycle Smart was also a part of our event with a worm composting display that kids could peek into, and touch! This year’s River of Words competition has received over 1,300 art and poetry submissions from 312 schools. Out of those 312 schools, approximately 24% of them are Title I. River of Words has received submissions from 38 countries, including hundreds of submissions from right here in the Bay Area. Our team delighted in meeting everyone who could make it out. It was an honor to share the hard work of all our watershed exploring artists and poets with the greater Saint Mary’s community.
