Contra Costa County Transitions to Red Tier: More Amenities and Services Re-Open for Students

March 14, 2021

Dear SMC Community,

We are delighted to announce that Contra Costa County has moved into the less restrictive Red Tier as local conditions have improved substantially and vaccinations increase. This means that we are able to open more campus amenities for both residential and non-residential students while continuing to meet and exceed the state guidelines for the safety of students, faculty, and staff.

Below is a list of services that are now open. Please visit the Campus Services page for updated information.

SMC can now enjoy the following benefits:

  • The Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center is open to residential students, starting on Monday, March 15. Learn more about hours of operation here.

  • Social gatherings are allowed. Residential students and off-campus students can gather informally on campus. Students can enjoy the spring sunshine and relax on the campus lawn while maintaining social distancing and wearing masks.  Look here for the details!

  • The Library will be open beginning Wednesday, March 17 to both residential and off-campus students. Curbside materials pickup will continue to be available. Visit the library page to see the most up-to-date hours of service.

  • The Bookstore is now open to residential and off-campus students. Visit the bookstore page to see the most up-to-date hours of service.

  • Chapel & Interfaith Sacred Space is open for personal use for all students.

  • Oliver Hall is open for grab-and-go food service for all students and for in-person dining for residential students with a meal plan.

  • Athletic events will be opening soon. We will let you know when we can attend live events in the stadium and other venues on campus.

We will continue to develop sponsored events for both on and off-campus students so please check out the MySMC Portal for event announcements or follow us @stmarysca on Instagram.

Please remember to continue following safety and health protocols. We are hopeful that with continued vigilance, we will be able to gradually re-open more campus amenities.
