August 22, 2020 | Updated Message to our Members

In compliance with the health order from Contra Costa County Health Services and approval from College Leadership, the following services are available for on-campus resident students.

As of August 24, 2020

Scheduled Academic Classes in the Group X, Double Gym and Single Gym which have been approved by the College.
 

As of August 31, 2020 and upon the completion of their 2nd negative COVID-19 test.

Recreational activities for on-campus students with proper registration and check-in. 

  • Lap Swimming
  • Outdoor Fitness Classes

The Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center will re-open when county health services allow and with cleaning protocols in place to ensure the safest environment for our community. Facilities Services (Able Services) will provide daily cleaning and disinfection as scheduled.  Campus Recreation Staff will disinfect all equipment and open spaces several times a day. Additional hand sanitizer stations will be available for members. Members will also be expected to clean all touchpoints on equipment prior to and after each use.

With recent decisions regarding opening up gyms and swimming pools that adhere to the guidelines mapped out by the State of California/Contra Costa Department of Health, we wanted to share with you that the reopening of the Joseph L. In response to the college's communiation about looking ahead to re-open services on campus, Campus Recreation has mapped out several different plans to welcome you back to the Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center.  We continue to look at the best public health practices and take into account the anticipated need for continues social distancing guidelines as well as cleaning and disinfecting recommendations.  Read more here.

University recreation center directors, students, and instructors from 75+ participating colleges and universities across the country are sharing a variety of live and prerecorded workout classes.  Classes include yoga, boxing, cardio, HIIT, conditioning, and more and are recorded and streamed using the TikTok video sharing platform.

Responding To The Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Saint Mary College is currently communicating with the Contra Costa County Public Health Department and following CDC recommendations related to responding to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

SMC Faculty & Staff Memberships

Due to Closure

Membership fees through 3/15/20 will be captured out of the 3/20/20 paycheck and as of 3/16/20 all membership fees will be suspended until the facility reopens.

Current SMC Faculty and Staff have the opportunity to opt into a payroll deduction for a membership to the Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center for $20/month ($10 per pay period). Visit Human Resources office with this form and fill out your facility waiver here. SMC ID card required to enter the facility.  

SMC Volunteers & Adjunct Faculty must aquire authorization code from HR in order to purchase though online portal.

 

Affiliate Memberships 

Due to Closure

All Affiliate memberships that were active on March 14th will remain frozen. 

The expiration date to your membership will extend to include the days in which we are closed.

The recreation center that gives Saint Mary's College students a place to exercise and hang out has opened its doors (READ MORE). A pool, climbing wall, three indoor courts for basketball, soccer and volleyball, a fitness center, and rooms for yoga, dance and spinning classes the new recreation center has plenty to offer for its college community. From providing more than 150 on-campus student jobsto a myriad of ways to exercise and gather, the Center has something for everyone.
