Transfer Scholarships

Transfer students are eligible for the academic scholarships listed below:

Merit Scholarships for Transfer Students

Each of the following awards are renewable for a maximum of three years of total, consecutive, uninterrupted full-time study toward the completion of a student's first baccalaureate degree at Saint Mary's College, contingent upon on the student's achieving satisfactory academic progress. If you have additional questions regarding merit-based scholarships, please contact the Office of Admissions. 

Merit-based scholarship decisions are determined at the time of acceptance, and no additional forms are required to be considered for merit-based scholarships.

Transfer students may use the College's Transfer Net Price Calculator tool to help determine what estimated merit-based scholarships and other financial aid assistance are available to you, as well as, what the actual cost will be at Saint Mary's College.

Transfer Presidential Scholarship: $15,000 annually

The Transfer Presidential Scholarship is automatically awarded to transfer students who meet all the following criteria:

  • Cumulative academic GPA of 3.5 or higher

Transfer Honors Scholarship: $12,000 annually

The Transfer Honors Scholarship is automatically awarded to transfer students who meet all the following criteria:

  • Cumulative academic GPA range of 3.25 - 3.49

Transfer Gaels Scholarship: $10,000 annually

The Transfer Gaels Scholarship is automatically awarded to transfer students who meet all the following criteria:

  • Cumulative academic GPA range of 3.00 - 3.24

Community College Partnership Award: $4,000 annually

Transfer students entering directly from one of the community college partner colleges will receive a $4,000 scholarship, which will be added to any other scholarships received.

Community College Partner Colleges include: American River College, Berkeley City College, Canada College, Chabot College, City College of San Francisco, College of Alameda, College of San Mateo, Contra Costa College, Cosumnes River College, Cuesta College, Diablo Valley College, De Anza College, Folsom Lake College, Foothill College, Laney College, Las Positas College, Los Medanos College, Merritt College, Napa Valley College, Ohlone College, Sacramento City College, Santa Barbara City College, Santa Rosa Junior College, Skyline College, Solano Community College.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: $5,000

Five eligible Phi Theta Kappa members will receive this $5,000 award, which will be added to any other SMC scholarships received. Eligibility is based upon the following criteria:

  • Acceptance to Saint Mary's College
  • Documentation of the Phi Theta Kappa membership on the Common Application and or college transcript
  • Demonstration of academic and leadership achievements

Alpha Gamma Sigma Scholarship: $5,000

Two eligible Alpha Gamma Sigma members will receive this $5,000 award, which will be added to any other SMC scholarships received. Eligibility is based upon the following criteria:

  • Acceptance to Saint Mary's College
  • Documentation of the Alpha Gamma Sigma membership on the Common Application and or college transcript
  • Demonstration of academic and leadership achievements

Need-Based Aid 

Saint Mary's College General Scholarships:  $1,000-$32,000 annually

To apply: These need-based grants depend on student demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA. Other endowed scholarships have additional criteria, such as geographic qualifications or ethnic heritage. (e.g., the Joseph David Cardoza scholarship for students of Portuguese decent). Please contact the Office of Financial Aid if you have additional questions.

Other Saint Mary's Scholarships

Alumni Legacy Scholarship

Beginning for Fall 2020 applicants, the Alumni Legacy Scholarship valued at $2,000 is available to new first-year and transfer students who are the children or grandchildren of Saint Mary’s College alumni. Qualification as an 'alumni' constitutes successful completion of an Undergraduate (B.A. or B.S.) or Graduate (M.A., M.S., MBA, MFA, M.Ed, Ed.D) degree from the college. The scholarship amount for the Fall 2020 year is $2,000 and is annually renewable for up to three years of consecutive full-time undergraduate study, contingent upon satisfactory academic progress. 

To apply: Eligible legacy applicants will be automatically awarded upon contingent acceptance to the college.

*Please note: This award may be combined with other Saint Mary’s College Scholarships for up to a maximum of three separate awards, which may not exceed the cost of tuition.  These awards will be applied against any financial need that you may demonstrate through filing the Free Application of Federal Student Aid.  Please note that should you later prove eligible for any Pell and or California Grant aid, the maximum amount of gift aid that you will be awarded will not exceed the cost of tuition.

The Macken Collegiate Forensics Scholarships: 2,500-13,000 annually

To apply: In order to compete for one of the Macken Collegiate Forensics Scholarships, please submit a self-nomination form.

Saint Mary's Macken Collegiate Forensics program offers a variety of scholarship opportunities to incoming freshmen, transfers, and currently enrolled SMC students.

Students are selected to receive scholarships based on their level of commitment to the Macken team, their competitive potential and contributions, and their academic standing.

 

Robert W. Summers Scholarship in Communication and Journalism

The Communication Department of Saint Mary's College is pleased to offer the "Robert W. Summers Scholarship Award in Communication and Journalism."

To apply: Students may fill out the form by clicking on the Rober W. Summers Scholarship button below. In addition to a brief (500 words) statement of interest, proof of 3.0+ GPA, portfolio of work on journalism (broadly defined) and one letter of reference, students must participate in an interview with a faculty member of the Communication Department during Scholarship Saturday.
