Mathematics & Computer Science Department
Learn how to understand the physical world around us and the abstract world within us.
At Saint Mary’s, we’re devoted to training the next generation of highly capable problem solvers. In our diverse, tight-knit community, you’ll gain a foundational understanding of mathematics and computer science, acquiring skills that can be used in both the natural and social sciences while becoming adept at using the computer as a tool for complex calculations.
You’ll have numerous opportunities to make discoveries alongside our world-renowned faculty or while studying abroad. Our students have helped research everything from the birth of stars to gerrymandering. With Saint Mary’s small class sizes and discussion-driven courses, you’ll receive plenty of personalized attention as you pursue your unique interests and aspirations.
In addition to need and merit-based scholarships, Math and Computer Science students are eligible for the Brother Dominic Barry Mathematics Scholarship.
Every summer, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on scientific research experience—and get paid for it. In 2021, students working with Physics & Astronomy Professor Aaron Lee and his colleagues at Harvard explored the birth of stars, using the largest supercomputers in the world.
