Family Weekend

Family Weekend is a time for families to reconnect with their students, other Saint Mary's families, faculty, and staff.  We encourage you to take advantage of your time on campus:  hike to the cross, visit the Museum of Art, or hang out in the quad!

Friday, October 7

Campus Retail Hours:

  • Cafe Louis - 7:30am-9pm
  • Oliver Hall - 7-10:30am; 11am-2pm; 4:45-8pm
  • Saint Mary's Bookstore - 9am-3pm

12-2pm - Food Truck Friday, Ferroggiaro Hall

This weekly event features a Bay Area food truck.  The first 80 students receive a voucher for free food!  This week's truck is Crazy Empanadas.

12:30-2pm - Feel Good Friday, Intercultural Center

Feel Good Friday is a fun social event held every first Friday of the month for students to build community, have fun and decompress after a long week.

1-10pm - Performing Arts Drop In Classes/Rehearsals

  • 1-2:35pm - Vocal Science led by Dr. Julie Ford, ART 105
  • 3-4pm - Chapel Singers rehearsal led by Michael Blackburn, Chapel
  • 4:30-6pm - Dance rehearsal, Suyfy 110

  • 6-10pm - The Caucasion Chalk Circle (Fall Theatre Production) rehearsal led by renowned director and translator of this play Domenique Lozano, LeFevre Theatre

4pm - Family Weekend Library Escape Room - CLICK HERE to RSVP

What does a 1918 fire, red bricks, and a sanitarium have in common? Unlock their mystery to Escape from the Archives this Friday, October 7, 2020, starting at 4:00pm.

 Hosted by the Saint Albert Hall Library. The escape room will last approximately 25 minutes. The maximum number of participants during each time slot is eight. You may sign up individually or as a group.

6-8pm - Family Picnic on the Lawn, Chapel Lawn

Food items will be available for purchase. Enjoy our pleasant fall weather, music, and lawn games!  The first 25 families receive a FREE Saint Mary's picnic blanket.

Saturday, October 8

10-10:45am - Choose Your Own SMC Adventure I

  • Study Abroad - Saint Mary's offers over 20 study abroad and exchange programs and destinations. Come learn about locations, costs, and the application process.  Jan Term travel will also be covered in this session.
  • Second Year Housing Options and Beyond! - Join Campus Housing for a tour of the newly renovated More Hall and learn about housing options available to students after their first year. 

11-11:45am - Choose Your Own SMC Adventure II

  • Gael Career & Professional Development - Learn about the variety of services and resources available to your student in their search for internships, part - and full-time jobs, and preparing for graduate school.
  • Talk with an Archivist! - SMC Archivist, Kate Wilson, will show you some of the more unique pieces in our collection of Saint Mary's historical items.
  • Meet Good Eating Company - Saint Mary's has recently partnered with Good Eating Company (GEC) in an agreement to provide dining service to campus.  This session will focus on GEC's guiding principles, commitment to sustainability, and their farm-to-fork mindset.

12pm - Women's Soccer Tailgate Party, SMC Stadium / 1pm - Women's Soccer v. LMU, SMC Stadium - CLICK HERE and use presale code FAMWKND22 to unlock the Family Weekend offer! 

NOTE: Current SMC students receive free entrance to the game with a student ID but they will need a food voucher if they plan to attend the BBQ.

2-4pm - School of Science Summer Research Program:  Student Poster Session, Brousseau Hall

Learn about the amazing research being done by students in the School of Science!  Students who participated in the Summer Research Program in 2022 will present their research findings in a poster session.  Talk to researchers and their mentors, learn about the science, and hear about the Summer Research Program.

2pm - Tour of Fall Exhibits, SMC Museum

Fake It Till You Make It: A Quest for Authenticity - Calling for transparency, this exhibition explores how authenticity is defined and determined in institutions, museums, and among art experts and artists. From forgeries to Tourist art, Pop Art to NFTs, these selected works from the college collection question value and originality in art history through ways of seeing, artist intent, and the cultural value placed on Art.

Interdisciplinary Voice - Interdisciplinary Voice comprises faculty, scholars, and staff across campus responding to objects in the Saint Mary's College Museum of Art permanent collection. Offering a space for dialogue, these voices interpret the selected works to facilitate conversation, provoke ideas, and consider academic and interdisciplinary perspectives and approaches to art.

11am - Saint Mary's Community Mass, Chapel

12pm - Post Liturgy Reception, Mission & Ministry Center

Mission & Ministry invites all students and their families to Mission & Ministry Center (located next to the Chapel) for some light refreshments after Mass.
