First Time Parent at SMC? Start Here

Welcome, New College Parents!
Starting college is a major milestone—not just for your student, but for you as a parent as well. As your student begins this exciting new chapter, your continued support plays a vital role in their success.
While college encourages independence, your involvement—staying informed, asking questions, and understanding the resources available—helps create a strong foundation for your student to thrive.
Our campus offers a wide range of support services designed to help students academically, socially, and emotionally. From academic advising and tutoring centers to wellness programs and career services, we’re here to support your student every step of the way.
We encourage you to explore the information and resources on the Parents and Family page website so you can feel confident and connected as your student embarks on their college journey. Staying informed is one of the best ways to continue being a steady presence in this time of change.
Welcome to our college community—we’re glad you’re here.

A SMC Tradition is our annual Weekend of Welcome. This time starts on your move in day and continues throughout the next 4 days, to support families and students with the transition of moving onto campus and being ready to start class on the first day of school.
Information can be found on the Weekend of Welcome page here, with dates and times of activities for that week. We encourage all families to attend the Farewell BBQ held on Thursday evening. After the Farewell BBQ, most of the programming for the Weekend of Welcome will be for students only; we encourage students to use this time to put themselves out there, meet new people and continue to learn more about SMC.
