Distinguished Alumni Awards Eligibility and Criteria

The Saint Mary’s College Alumni Association annually honors individuals who have brought distinction to the College through their service to the community, success in their professional endeavors, and commitment to the Catholic, Lasallian, and Liberal Arts traditions of the institution.

Award submissions are reviewed and selected by a committee of the Alumni Association Board of Directors.

To be eligible to receive a distinguished alumni award, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Nominees must be a degreed alumnus/a of Saint Mary’s College, except in the case of the Honorary Alumnus/a Award and the De la Salle Award.

  • Nominees in a position of elected or appointed government office or known to be launching a campaign are ineligible for consideration.

  • Nominees cannot be current voting members of the Board of Trustees, Board of Regents, or of the Alumni Board of Directors.

  • Nominees cannot have previously received an award in the category for which the nomination is submitted. However, previous award winners may be nominated for a different category. Please allow a minimum of five years to pass before nominating a candidate for another category.

*Any exceptions to the general criteria must be unanimously approved by the President, Vice President for Advancement, and award selection committee in consultation with the cabinet for special circumstances.
