National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)

National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)
Body

Saint Mary’s College administers the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) on a three-year cycle to obtain reliable, research-based evidence about the undergraduate learning environment and the extent to which students participate in educational practices linked to strong academic achievement and holistic development. The survey provides a comprehensive view of student engagement across key dimensions such as academic challenge, collaborative learning, student–faculty interaction, and the overall campus environment.

With hundreds of colleges and universities participating nationally, NSSE enables Saint Mary’s to situate its results within a broader comparative context. These benchmarking analyses inform institutional planning and assessment efforts by highlighting patterns of student engagement, identifying strengths, and revealing opportunities for improvement that support student learning, equity, and success.

The most recent iteration of the NSSE at Saint Mary’s took place in spring 2025. In this administration, the College supplemented the core survey with two additional modules, Experiences with Information Literacy and First-Year Experiences and Senior Transitions, to gain deeper insight into key aspects of the student experience. Reports provided by NSSE can be found by following the links below.

The previous iteration of the NSSE at Saint Mary's took place in spring 2022. For an executive summary of results, click here. Additional reports (provided by NSSE) can be found by following the links below.
