Tutorial and Academic Skills Center

Body

The Tutorial & Academic Skills Center (TASC) provides free tutoring for all students in De La Salle 110.

Mission

Our mission is to provide all students at Saint Mary’s College of California with tutoring services and resources to promote their academic success. Through these initiatives and collaborations with faculty and staff, the TASC fosters a welcoming and safe environment where students can develop new skills and strengthen current skills to become active, independent learners. Our student tutors are leaders on campus that encourage and positively influence students by building on their academic and personal strengths to achieve success at Saint Mary’s.

Helpful Hints

  • Ask immediately, on the first day of class if you have questions about information on a syllabus (an instructor's outline of the readings, assignments, tests, and important dates in their course).
  • Review course material daily or weekly during the term, re-read your class notes, textbook, workbook exercises, etc. Form consistent study habits and establish a routine.
  • Arrange to study with other students in your classes. You might understand course content other students need help with, and they might be able to assist you with content you would like to understand better.
  • Obtain the office hours of your instructors, and meet with them when you need help comprehending course information or assignments. Remember, faculty members are here to assist you both in and out of the classroom.
  • Ask for assistance with a problem after you have made a serious effort to work through it on your own.
  • Seek academic support from people qualified to give it: instructors, advisors, success coaches, or trained tutors.
