The Justice, Community and Leadership: Single Subject 4+1 will prepare you to become an expert teacher in your chosen subject. That means you can earn your B.A. and complete your SSTE credential at the end of your 5th year.
Guided by our approachable faculty, you’ll learn how to effectively and engagingly communicate your area of expertise to students. All of this takes place in small class sizes, a hallmark of the liberal arts education.

A justice-focused pathway that pairs with your major and positions you to earn a Single Subject Teaching Credential; roles span classrooms, curriculum, policy, and community programs.

Single Subject Teacher (Middle/High School)
Design standards-aligned lessons, manage classrooms, and measure learning in your credential subject
Student Teacher / Teaching Resident
Apprentice with a mentor teacher while planning instruction, delivering lessons, and gathering assessment data
Instructional Assistant / Paraeducator
Provide targeted supports, accommodations, and small-group instruction to advance student learning
Substitute Teacher
Maintain continuity of instruction, implement prepared plans, and manage diverse classrooms across subjects
Curriculum & Assessment Coordinator (Entry-Level)
Assist with pacing guides, common assessments, and data cycles to improve instructional practice
Education Policy / Program Analyst (Entry-Level)
Compile evidence, evaluate K–12 initiatives, and draft briefs that inform district or state decisions
Community Engagement & Service-Learning Coordinator
Build school–community partnerships, place volunteers, and track outcomes for experiential learning
EdTech Implementation Specialist
Train faculty on instructional tools, collect adoption feedback, and troubleshoot classroom technology
