Gael Athletics

Saint Mary’s College’s Division I athletics programs have been allowed to move forward by the NCAA, state and county guidelines to return to practice this fall and begin competition this winter. All teams must follow the Collegiate Athletics guidelines put forward by the state of California and must follow NCAA and WCC regulations.

Guidelines & Protocol

Saint Mary’s student-athletes will have to follow strict medical guidelines and a specific protocol to support participants’ health and well-being and will be supervised by Saint Mary’s sports medicine staff.

For competitions, student-athletes must test three-times per week and are required daily health screenings. As of Nov. 25, only men’s and women’s basketball will be competing in games. On Jan. 3, all student-athletes will return to campus and once again go through Covid-19 tests before being cleared to participate in practice. Saint Mary’s will continue to follow NCAA, state, and county guidelines for practices at Saint Mary’s College, which includes weekly testing. No decision on spring sports competitions has been made at this time by the NCAA and WCC.

While competing in practice and competitions, student-athletes remain grouped into pods within their team to help with safety precautions. Extra safety cleaning and precautions have been added by up the athletic department to make sure all of the campus is safe during this time.
