The library strives to maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment where everyone feels comfortable.
Library users are expected to:
- Treat all library staff, patrons, and visitors in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner consistent with the mission and values of Saint Mary’s College
- Exhibit behavior that promotes a safe and comfortable environment
- Follow all library noise, study space, technology, and facility guidelines
In support of this, the following actions will not be tolerated within library spaces or during library-sponsored events:
- Using abusive, threatening, harassing, or intimidating language, behavior, or actions toward library patrons or staff
- Exhibiting disruptive behavior that interferes with study, research, teaching, library operations, or the use of library spaces
- Refusing to leave the library at closing time or when directed by authorized staff or campus officials
- Violating any Saint Mary's College policy, campus regulation, or applicable law
- Misusing library facilities, equipment, technology, or resources
Library staff may ask patrons engaging in inappropriate or disruptive behavior to stop, leave the area, or leave the library. Campus Safety may be contacted to assist or escort individuals from the premises for noncompliance with library guidelines.
The library reserves the right to suspend library services and privileges for those who violate this policy in order to maintain a safe and respectful environment for the SMC community.
