Program Assessment Advisory Board (PAAB) is composed of three faculty representatives across schools who have taught at undergraduate and graduate programs, Director of Collegiate Seminar, Director of Jan Term, a librarian, and a representative from co-curricular programs. Since its inception in 2023, it is serving the core function of the Office of Assessment and Educational Effectiveness that supports campus-wide faculty-led assessment of student learning endeavors. The mission of PAAB is to facilitate assessment as faculty-led, meaningful, sustainable, and practical activities integral to continuous improvement of educational effectiveness, as well as assessment as professional development for course instructors. Specific responsibilities of PAAB include:

  • Develop and maintain the SMC Assessment Guide; 
  • Review and provide feedback on internal assessment funding applications; 
  • Review program-level learning outcomes (PLOs) and curriculum maps, and serve as a consulting body for programs revising PLOs and curriculum maps, as well as for newly developed programs; 
  • Standardize the format of annual assessment report submitted by programs; 
  • Review assessment results based on the annual report and facilitate campus-wide discussion on continuous improvement plans; 
  • Deliver assessment workshops and annual forum; and 
  • Advise the Vice Provost for Institutional and Educational Effectiveness on data strategies to improve holistic assessment of student learning.
