Que(e)ries: Diverse Genders and Sexualities Action Subcommittee

In the Spirit of our Lasallian Catholic heritage, we are committed to respect for and holistic development of all persons. Queeries recognizes that our community includes individuals with vast and intersectional identities including diverse gender identities, gender expressions, sexualities, sexual expressions, family, and relational structures and backgrounds. As such we aim to actively inform and support policies, practices, and actions that affirm and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ communities at Saint Mary's College. We will do this via the promotion of equitable and collaborative work grounded in rich traditions of resistance, liberation, and social justice. 

Our charge:

Queeries is here to build community and be in community; to raise awareness; to collaborate with campus partners to show up, celebrate and recognize our Queer community; and to maintain resources for our Queer Gaels. 

Membership: 

The Queeries subcommittee is currently co-chaired by one faculty and one staff, and one student representative. The core working group consists of faculty, staff, and students ideally including campus offices and groups who are invested in initiatives supporting our charge. The College Provost and the Associate Provost & Senior Diversity Officer are considered ex-officio members of the subcommittee. The subcommittee remains an open space available to members of the Saint Mary's community who seek ways to contribute to the charge. We especially welcome members who bring intersectional perspectives to the work of the committee.

To join the Queeries Listserv, once logged into MySMC, go to Google Apps and click on Groups. Once on the Groups landing page, on the left hand side, click All Groups, search for "Queeries" and Join the Group! For privacy, only co-Chairs can see membership within the Listserv.

The Queer and Trans Lit Collection

The Queer and Trans Lit Collection (QTL) was created with generous funding from the Queeries Committee. The QTL collection, initially envisioned and curated by former faculty member Anna I. Corwin and librarian Molly June Roquet, continues to be supported and maintained by SMC librarians. It features queer and trans books from across our collection: adult fiction and nonfiction, young adult fiction and nonfiction, graphic novels, and picture books. It is meant to be a visible and easily accessible collection highlighting and supporting our LGBTQIA+ community. Additional LGBTQIA+ literature can be found throughout the stacks. The SMC Community can find the collection in the Quiet Study Room inside the Library at the Power Plant.
