Testing protocol for SMC Campus Community.

SMC Students

COVID-19 Screening Testing

The Health and Wellness Center has outlined the College’s plan for student testing upon return back to campus and ongoing screening throughout the semester. For specific details, visit the Health & Wellness Center website for COVID-19 testing for SMC Students.

Student Groups

SMC Students are categorized into 4 groups based on campus residency and frequency of campus visits. Testing is required for those who live, work and have approval to be on-campus.  Please visit the COVID-19 Student Screening Testing Program for more information.

Students Returning Back to Campus

Residential students returning back to campus for Jan Term, Spring Semester and Easter Recess are required to complete two return COVID-19 tests and are expected to limit their activities as outlined by the College and continue to follow all campus-wide health and wellness protocols until they have received the result of their first COVID test.

Ongoing Screening Testing

After the residential students’ initial return to campus screening testing is complete, weekly COVID screening testing will be performed on a schedule set by the College. Students required to participate in screening testing will receive an email communication from the Health and Wellness Center that indicates next steps, including scheduling the mandatory test.

Students with COVID-19 Symptoms or Exposure to a Positive COVID-19 Case

Students who exhibit COVID-19 symptoms or who have been exposed to a positive COVID-19 case can be tested at the Health & Wellness Center during operational clinic hours. Students with COVID-19 symptoms or a community exposure should call the Health & Wellness Center and they will be advised by a clinic nurse. If a residential student tests positive or is a close contact of someone else who tests positive, they will be referred to the Saint Mary’s College Residential Care Team for isolation support and guidance.

Students who have received a positive COVID-19 test result from an off-campus clinic are asked to report this result to the Health and Wellness Center.

SMC Employees

Employees should get tested for COVID-19 if they develop COVID-19 symptoms or are notified that they have had close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. If an employee has any COVID-19 symptoms, or a close contact, they should stay home. If an employee develops symptoms while at work, they should return home and isolate until receiving further guidance from a healthcare provider.
