The CTLS:EdTech Center is a space for faculty to learn about academic technologies that enhance teaching, learning, and scholarship. This is where the IT Services department supports the broader vision of faculty development aligned with the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship (CTLS).

We offer a selection of exciting events and in-person training that includes Faculty Tech Camp, Moodle course site development, and classroom technology training. We also provide consultation on a wide variety of digital literacy options. Please stop by during office hours and check the EdTech events calendar to learn more about our upcoming events.

Who We Are

The EdTech team works to promote excellence and innovation by providing robust educational technology support for faculty as an integral part of faculty development and the efforts of the Center for Teaching Learning and Scholarship. We aspire to deliver excellent service, communication, and collaboration, among ourselves and the Saint Mary's College Community.

Our Services

We offer tech support for classroom technologies and faculty events and workshops that encourage the use of educational technologies and digital literacy education. The EdTech Center provides a space for faculty to learn and practice academic technologies that further teaching, learning, and scholarship. Some highlights of our programming include:

Workshops on technological tools to enhance productivity, teaching, learning, and scholarship
Events designed to enhance digital literacy and collaboration
Guest speakers on select educational technology topics.
Project and Instructional design consultation
Just in time training for classroom technologies
Classroom visits to support faculty in content specific digital tools

The EdTech Center supports the broader vision of The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship, with educational technology as a CTLS "discipline" and is centrally located on the first floor of the Library.

Digital Literacy Initiative

We are pleased to announce the launch of our Basic Digital Literacy Pilot Program (DLP) this Fall, as a part of a shared vision and governance of digital literacy contextualized for Saint Mary's College of California along with best practices, in alignment with the College's strategic goals and initiatives. The DLP is also a part of the larger Digital Literacy Initiative, which the IT Services EdTech team launched in 2014 to equip faculty with the tools to begin your teaching (in or out of the classroom) to enrich student learning through the use of technology.

The DLP is an asynchronous, hybrid program designed to meet the specific technical and pedagogical needs of our SMC community. The DLP focuses on the following:

Understanding faculty goals with respect to the use of technology;
Assessing the skills students need to meet these goals
Evaluating what kinds of technologies will help students achieve these skills
Designing assignments that will teach students these skills through the use of technologies;
Learning these technologies sufficiently as faculty to be able to meet these goals

Objectives of the SMC Digital Literacy Program:

It can be completed asynchronously, which will allow for more flexibility in busy and irregular schedules.
It is a packaged and regularly maintained program that includes tools, activities, and pedagogy hand-picked for our SMC faculty (e.g. Classroom Technology, Digital Collaboration Tools, Web Conferencing, Accessibility, Moodle, Apple and Google Certification, Copyright, and focused on Literacy Across Disciplines).
