Asian Pacific Islander Subcommittee
Mission
The Asian Pacific Islander Resource Group (APIRG) exists to improve the campus experiences of API students, faculty, and staff through programs, curriculum, consultation, and resources celebrating our communities and experiences. The APIRG affinity group develops and works with the Committee on Diversity, Belonging, and Liberation (CDBL) for support on:
- Advocating for civil rights and social justice through education and empowerment at all structural levels throughout Saint Mary’s College to address disparities.
- Identifying opportunity gaps and calling for equitable changes in support of API students, faculty, and staff. These efforts by APIRG nurture API individuals to thrive and excel in academic, professional, and personal settings.
- Serving as a campus and community resource for events, curricular and co-curricular opportunities, and organizational information that is of interest or benefit to API students, faculty, and staff while providing a safe and welcoming college experience.
- Address the diverse and changing needs of the API community through cross-cultural community building, such as Heritage Month Celebrations and social justice tools across departments and campus groups.

Asian Cultural Week's Theme: Reconnecting… In times of vaccines, virtual happy hours, and violent struggles, we are navigating through a world that has forced us to reflect on our lives. Acknowledging the adversity, we are working to better ourselves, our communities, and our understanding of our cultures. We are making a collective comeback by looking at our roots, our present self, and imagining the future to see who we are meant to be. With love and hope, we are......Finding our way.

Stop Asian Hate
Darby McLaughlin
In the course "Culture As A Site of Justice" with Professor Schmidt, we spent the semester learning about how art can reflect our culture and identity while perpetuating a social justice pedaogy. Witnessing the brutally racist attacks that have been occurring across the US towards the AAPI community has really affected me, as I am the daughter of a Vietnamese immigrant. I found myself struggling to search the internet for ways I could help or get involved in the Stop Asian Hate Movement. Inspired by a digital portrait I created of my grandmother, I decided to design an infographic as an educational tool that quickly goes over what is happening, why it's happening, and what we can do to support the AAPI Community.
APASA Night Market
APASA is proud to bring back the Night Market. We’d like to invite all members of the Saint Mary’s community to come and enjoy a night filled with food, music, and fun.
