Tutorial and Academic Skills Center (TASC)

Need a little extra help with a class or a specific academic skill?  Be sure to utilize the free services offered by the Tutorial and Academic Skills Center, which offers tutoring to all undergraduate and graduate students in a one-on-one or group setting.  Also contact them if you're interested in becoming a Peer Tutor.

Center for Writing Across the Curriculum (CWAC)

The Center for Writing Across the Curriculum or CWAC is a free resource for all SMC students designed to assist with increasing writing skills and eloquence.  They offer services like Writing Circles, one-on-one sessions and a various workshops.

Student Engagement and Academic Success (SEAS)

The Student Engagement and Academic Success or SEAS office is a resource center for students that provides strategies and programming to assist with academic and personal success, transition to college and campus, balance with home and coursework, academic planning and exploration, and more.

MPOWER Financing Student Loans

MPOWER Financing

MPOWER Financing offers student loans specifically geared towards international students and DACA recipients at the undergraduate or graduate level who are studying at Saint Mary's.  These loans do not require a cosigner nor a credit history and are available to students from over 190 countries.  

Eligibility

  • Must be within 2 years of graduating or about to begin a 1 or 2-year program
  • Must be an international student, DACA recipient, refugee, asylee or asylum-seeker, or US citizen
  • Must be admitted to or attending an MPOWER partner school (Saint Mary's is a partner school)

The Andrew and Annie Lin Scholarship

The Lin Scholarship was given to Saint Mary's College (and is administered by the Center for International Programs) to help students achieve their academic goals while pursuing their degree in the U.S.  The Lin Scholarship is awarded each Fall semester and past recipients are encouraged to re-apply.

Eligibility

  • Only students from China, Taiwan or Hong Kong may apply
  • Open to Saint Mary's undergraduate and graduate students
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher

Application Information

The Lin Scholarship Selection Committee will consider the following when reviewing applications:

  • Student demonstrates financial need
  • Student is a leader on campus

Deadline 

The deadline for Fall 2022 has passed.  Please check back in the Fall of 2023.

Study California Scholarship

Study California Scholarship

The Study California Scholarship is awarded to three new incoming international students who are enrolled in a member institution.  The scholarship is meant to cover tuition, fees, books and other course materials.  New SMC international students are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility

  • Open each Fall semester to new international students studying on an F-1 visa who are enrolled full-time at a member institution
  • Undergraduate or graduate students can apply
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher

'Make Your Mark' Scholarship

LewerMark Scholarship for International Students

The 'Make Your Mark' Scholarship is sponsored by LewerMark Student Insurance and it is awarded to four international students who are currently enrolled in U.S. higher education institutions.  All international students are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility 

  • Open to all F, J, M and Q visa holders
  • Open to all DACA students
  • Must be recommended by any member of staff or faculty from Saint Mary's College

Application Information

Students will submit an essay in response to the application prompt.  The scholarship selection committee will judge the essay based on the vision, creativity, and clarity that it demonstrates.  The recommendation from the student's staff or faculty member will also be considered.

The Leo S. Rowe Pan American Fund

The Rowe Fund

The Rowe Fund is an educational loan program that is operated by the Organization of American States (OAS) that provides financing options to students from Latin American and the Caribbean.

Eligibility

  • Undergraduate or graduate students studying in the U.S
  • Must be a citizen of a Latin American or Caribbean OAS member country
  • Must have a U.S. student visa

Global Citizen Scholarship

Eligibility

  • Be accepted at or enrolled in a full-time degree program at U.S. institution that MPOWER supports
  • Be an international student legally allowed to study in the U.S.

Women in STEM Scholarship

Eligibility

  • Be a female international student who is accepted to or enrolled in a full-time STEM degree program at a U.S. institution that MPOWER supports
  • Be an international student legally allowed to study in the U.S.
